KEVLAR®
is an advanced technology
that helps transform the ordinary
to the extraordinary. It combines
high strength with light weight,
and comfort with protection.
Products made with KEVLAR®
brand fiber help those who
use them to do more, to go
farther, to be even better
at what they do. Whether it's
working in a plant, at a construction
site or in a forest. Whether
it's walking a beat, escorting
a prisoner to his cell, or
completing a tour of duty.
Whether it's winning America's
Cup, the Tour de France or
the Boston Marathon. Whether
it's protection from the hazards
they face on the job every
day, or the comfort and lightweight
strength they rely on to help
them achieve their personal
best, men and women around
the world rely on one brand—KEVLAR®—to
help them realize the Power
of Performance.

Honeywell®
Spectra® Fiber
is one of the world’s
strongest and lightest fibers.
A bright white polyethylene,
it is, pound-for-pound, ten
times stronger than steel, more
durable than polyester and has
a specific strength that is
40 percent greater than aramid
fiber. Spectra®
fiber is made from ultra-high
molecular weight polyethylene
that is used in a patented gel-spinning
process. Polyethylene is a remarkably
durable plastic, and scientists
at Spectra Technologies have
captured the tremendous natural
strength in the molecular backbone
of this everyday plastic to
create one of the world’s
strongest and lightest fibers.
The gel-spinning process and
subsequent drawing steps allow
Spectra®
fiber to have a much higher
melting temperature (150°C
or 300°F) than standard
polyethylene. With outstanding
toughness and extraordinary
visco-elactic properties, Spectra®
fiber can withstand
high-load strain-rate velocities.
Light enough to float, it also
exhibits high resistance to
chemicals, water, and ultraviolet
light. It has excellent vibration
damping, flex fatigue and internal
fiber-friction characteristics,
and Spectra®
fiber’s low dielectric
constant makes it virtually
transparent to radar. Spectra®
fiber is used in numerous high-performance
applications, including police
and military ballistic-resistant
vests, helmets and armored vehicles,
as well as sailcloth, fishing
lines, marine cordage, lifting
slings, and cut-resistant gloves
and apparel. Honeywell also
converts Spectra®
fiber into the Spectra Shield®
family of specialty composites
for armor and other applications. |

Improving
Workplace Safety with Cut-Resistant
Fiber and Engineered Yarn Systems |
|
| |
Spectra
Technologies is at
the forefront of cut-resistant
fiber technology, especially
for knit and woven fabrics.
We are one of the world's foremost
manufacturers of cut-resistant
fibers and a "cutting edge"
developer of engineered yarn
products.
Spectra®
fiber has resistance to cut
and abrasion, making it an excellent
choice for liners and sleeves.
Our patented Spectra Guard™
and Spectra Guard™ CX
engineered yarn technology take
cut and slash protection to
higher levels for personal protection,
as well as vandal-resistant
and safety fabrics. |
